Part Time Art Teacher

New!

Deliver our amazing 8-week Art Programs. Working independently in a classroom environment, with support (offsite) from MoPA's Class Leader, you will build incredible rapport with your student cohort and nurture their creativity, confidence and connection through the power of art and play.

  • Based: In the Museum!
  • Category: Museum Roles
  • Location: Geelong, Sandringham, Thomastown
  • Position: Part-Time
  • Frequency: Weekday Afternoons, 3PM until 6.30PM
  • Length: 3.5 hours per shift
  • Salary: Museum Industry Award

Please note: MoPA’s Art Classes operate from 4.00pm until 5.30pm; meaning that you will be required to work weekdays, from 3pm until 6.30pm, allowing for setup and pack down before and after class. For term 1, classes will run from the first week of February until the last week of March – and depending on class enrolments, you may be required to work these hours from 2 to 5 days each week (Monday to Friday). A similar commitment is required for Term 2, 3 and 4. Students thrive off the connections and bonds they develop with the teaching fraternity, and we’re passionate about enabling this by ensuring the same teaching staff teach the classes. For this reason, please only apply for a Teaching Role if you’re available to work on weekdays, in the afternoons, during each school term of 2025.

Role description:

MoPA is famous for all the magical experiences we deliver. If you are successful in your application to join our teaching team, you will work with our amazing lead educator to learn the Term 1 curriculum and deliver it to a cohort of up to 12 students aged from 4 to 12 years old.

Our art classes are all about creativity, but they are also about building meaningful relationships among the student cohort, and nurturing the students confidence and wellbeing. And so to be successful in this role, you will have had good experience managing dynamic classrooms before, and thrive off the busy and creative energy of ART CLASSES.

  • You will be an eager learner yourself – because the curriculum you’re delivering will be brand new.
  • You are extremely resourceful and have an innate ability to manage really dynamic situations with grace – because things will not always go to plan and you’ll never be a challenge or two to work through.
  • You will have an incredible eye for detail – because your setup and pack down processes will ensure the exceptional hygiene and cleanliness the Museum is already famous for are well maintained.
  • But most of all you are a passionate teacher and a master of student engagement – your passion for teaching will shine through, and your students will thrive off the attention and care with which you apply in your craft.

Give me more:

  • Term 1 enrolments commence early in January 2025. At least 2 classes will then be made available, on MON and TUE afternoons, with more classes made available once those two afternoons are sold out

  • The curriculum, class structure, and all the supplies will all be provided, but only YOU can bring the heart. Student engagement and learning will be so heavily influenced by what you bring to their class, as their teacher – and only YOU can provide this.
  • You will be required to manage the classes from end to end. You will ensure everything is setup for your students, ready to go for their arrival, then you will deliver the class in full providing supervision and engagement throughout, and then once you’ve said goodbye and shared the learning experience with each of the parents picking up, you will pack everything down again and perform an impeccable clean for the next team who use the art room the next day.

To be considered for this position, you will:

  • Have worked in a classroom environment before, likely art classes just like these ones!

  • Be available to work at all times noted above.

  • Be a born ‘people person’ (You just LOVE engaging with children and carers of all ages and abilities).

  • Be a naturally fun, bubbly, positive personality – a breath of fresh air in everything you do.

THE ART OF DRESS UPS!
Showing From Jan 2nd til’ Feb 3rd

While activities like dress-ups may seem like harmless fun, these joyful shenanigans can actually be VERY. Serious. Business...

Children (and sometimes adults!) dress up because it’s just fun, of course. But children also use these make-believe opportunities to experiment with personas and scenarios that reach far beyond regular everyday life. The dress-up games they play enhance their creative skills, and it’s also now proven that children build fundamental social skills through play; and these skills pay dividends well into adult life.

All of MoPA’s new dress-up activities, and the materials required to participate in them, are all included with all regular tickets.

Why is it so important book ahead?

As we head into the holiday period, we thought it would be helpful to remind our gorgeous guests that you must book your tickets to MoPA online, prior to arrival.

We receive amazing feedback about limiting entry numbers in order to maintain a comfortable and safe environment.

Many of the team at MoPA are parents too, and so you can be sure that we all fully appreciate how difficult it can be to be super organised with your lil’uns 24-48 hours ahead of time. Booking your tickets online, however, does mean that you will never ever find MoPA to be overcrowded - even if it’s a rainy day in the middle of the school holidays ☔️🚗🎨🌈

The first week of school holidays are already 85-90% sold out, but there are LOTS of tickets available after Xmas and into January ♥️

WE CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU!! x
And the MOST popular Xmas Gift @ MoPA this year is? Our limited edition Xmas Membership Pack!!

$98 for UNLIMITED MoPA visits in 2025 + free tee + free paintbrush pen + free sticker pack!! WHOA!!!

🎨🎄Mo Mo Mo, Merry Christmas🎄💝
ATTN: IT’S FREE CRAFT SNOW DOME O’CLOCK.

From today right up until Christmas eve, ALL children visiting MoPA can work with our educators to create and take home their very own PERSONALISE-ABLE SNOW DOME!!

Yep. That’s right. Snow. In a dome. AND a drawing. Also in the dome. Cutest. Gift. Ever.

A tribute to Nonny? A nod to Uncle Lach? A gift for Auntie Paula? Or perhaps simply “The place where Iggy came from” (thanks Lily, Mum did clarify that Iggy is your lil’ plush penguin).

YOUR child’s snow dome can be whatever their imagination desires; and EVERY child that visits MoPA will receive one to make and take - from now and Christmas eve. Epic.
